Diet in cystic fibrosis – what should a nutritionist know?

The diet in cystic fibrosis is based primarily on ensuring the proper energy of the diet used and the proper balance of its nutrients. The primary objective of a dietician caring for a cystic fibrosis patient should be to ensure that the patient is properly fed. He must not be allowed to become malnourished. If a patient comes to the dietetic office, who already at the first visit is diagnosed with symptoms of malnutrition, deficiency of minerals and vitamins, the priority is slow but effective nutrition of the body of the ward. Are there general principles that we should follow when making dietary recommendations for patients with cystic fibrosis? What should we pay special attention to as dietitians?

In recent years, there have been many studies on cystic fibrosis – its etiology, diagnosis, pharmacological treatment, but also non-pharmacological. Thanks to the results of research and practice, several principles have been formulated that should be followed when working with a patient suffering from cystic fibrosis, including dietary recommendations.
