Cystic fibrosis is an incurable disease-the cause of death is most often respiratory failure. However, its development can be delayed by the use of supportive treatment – complex and multispecialistic. Therapy includes nutritional therapy (high-energy diet), a constant supply of fat-soluble vitamins and appropriate doses of pancreatic enzymes.
Prevention and treatment of bronchopulmonary disease should be undertaken, including physiotherapy, mucolytics, antibiotics, bronchodilators and anti-inflammatory drugs (glucocorticoids, macrolides, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), often also oxygen therapy. In patients with diabetes, insulinotherapy is switched on. Protective vaccinations are necessary-according to the vaccination calendar, as well as against hepatitis B and annual influenza.
